Govt. Mankunwar Bai College, Jabalpur founded in 1953 has a glorious history of achievements and accomplishments to its credit. Affiliated to Rani Durgawati University Jabalpur, it is placed at the heart of Jabalpur also known as Marble city. The college known for its excellent faculty was re-christened as M.H. College of Home Science in 1954. It offers programmes in various field of knowledge viz. Arts, Commerce, Home Science and Science. The institution was diffracted in 1987, and once again Govt. Mankunwar Bai College for Women came into existence . A gracious donation from Smt. Mankumwar Bai Trust resulted into the establishment of this college. One of the biggest women colleges in the Central India, the institution was accorded the autonomous status in 1991. Since then the mission of the college has been fto improvise the teaching learning process as well as to introduce innovative measures to ensure quality improvement in women education. The institution offers 15 subjects at the undergraduate level, and 13 at the post-graduate level. Apart from the traditional academic programme at the U.G. and P.G. level , the college runs two vocational courses and a couple of post graduate diploma courses, directed toward providing job opportunities to the students. It is one of the few college the state to offer post graduate courses in subjects like 'MUSIC' and 'DRAWING & PAINTING'. The fragrance, academic as well literal, emanated from the college garden, registers its presence throughout the state. Being one of the biggest autonomous colleges for women in the state, the institution primarily aims at conferring real autonomy to women. Autonomy paves the way for self-governance. Ever since its establishment there has been a considerable increase in the strength of the college. The present strength of the students admitted to various subject groups is 2859. The ratio of the teacher student is 1:32. Admissions to various courses are made strictly on the basis of merit. The college enjoys a good reputation. as far as the discipline is concerned, High percentage of classroom attendance, smooth running of sports, extra curricular activities speak well about it. The college has a highly qualified staff of 81 out of which 58 are Ph.D. holders and invariably each of the faculty is engaged in active research work. The entire faculty and administration of the college have imbibed such a modern work-culture so as to adopt itself to the new patterns of the changing scenario to produce best results in the dynamic corporate world. |
